Been married 2.5 weeks now!

  • Mood:
  • Music: Happily Ever After from movie soundtrack to EVER AFTER
It was a hectic time in Cairo. The first thing we had to do was go to the Embassy to get an affidavit claiming that I am able to get married with the showing of my Passport. My parents and Ahmed came with  me and I filled the form out in English while Ahmed filled it in Arabic. We paid and submitted the form and the lady behind the glass said to come back with our receipt the next day. We didn't go until two days later to pick the paper. We had to get it stamped and autorized at a smoky office but Ahmed somehow got it down without waiting in line. Then we got all the papers photocopied: Passport pages, ID, and the affidavit. We went to the Ministry of Justice from there. When we got to the front of the building some man said to Ahmed, Congrats and go to the 4th floor...did everyone who was going there, only going there to get married, or what?! We waited for my parents and Ahmed's two close friends who were going to be our witnesses. When they came, we took the stairs as the elevator looked like it was going to be full. There was a sign posted saying we were not allowed to have cell phones or cameras. We only wore our regular everyday clothing and the place was grungy and smokey...yuk! I don't know how long we waited but it felt like 2 hours or so in total. Then they called Ahmed's name so we went, to one office where we had one guy process some paperwork for us. After that we went to another office. From there we went back into the waiting room to wait once more. Then we were called again and went to one office getting moved around from desk to desk, 3 desks....one to process our folder, another to pay a fee and the last one to sign the license, and get thumb-printed. Then we were declared married and I turned to Ahmed and said, "Congratulations." Everyone laughed and said, "Mabrook" (Congrats). It still didn't feel like we were married. A few days later we got dressed up, me in my wedding dress and Ahmed in his suit and took photos. I posted the photos up in an album. I took a whole lot more, but the files are too large to post up here, but at least you get the idea.
I am married now  2.5 weeks! Now we'll be working on doing all the paperwork to get him here with me. I can't wait to finally share my life with him.
